OBJECTIVES:

SPGS International School Chengdu is on the lookout for an exceptional and motivating Teacher of Computer Science to join the Senior School team starting August 2026.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate and knowledgeable subject expert, capable of igniting curiosity, creativity, and intellectual rigor in students. This role involves delivering high-caliber instruction across Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and A Level, equipping students for success at top universities globally.

This position is perfect for an educator enthusiastic about computing, programming, and digital innovation, who thrives in an environment with ambitious and talented students.

Candidates who can also teach a related discipline, particularly Mathematics, are highly encouraged to apply.

In addition to classroom duties, the successful candidate will engage fully in the academic and pastoral aspects of school life, supporting the institution's dedication to academic excellence, character growth, and student wellbeing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Teaching and Learning

The Teacher of Computer Science will:

- Deliver engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons in Computer Science across KS3, IGCSE, and A Level.
- Create and conduct well-structured lessons that push students to excel and achieve high academic standards.
- Promote curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving through programming, computational thinking, and digital technologies.
- Develop and execute comprehensive schemes of work that embody best practices in computing education.
- Assign appropriately challenging tasks and provide constructive feedback to aid student progress.
- Monitor student advancement closely and intervene swiftly when additional support is needed.
- Prepare students thoroughly for both internal and external assessments.
- Assist students in cultivating independence, resilience, and a passion for learning.

Curriculum Development and Professional Collaboration

The post holder will:

- Actively contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Computer Science curriculum.
- Exchange resources, ideas, and best practices with colleagues within the department and across the school.
- Collaborate with colleagues at SPGS London to leverage subject expertise and enhance curriculum offerings.
- Engage in lesson observations, peer coaching, and professional learning communities.
- Stay abreast of developments in Computer Science education, technology, and digital innovation.
- Participate in departmental planning and curriculum evaluation.

Assessment and Reporting

The post holder will:

- Design and implement relevant assessments.
- Maintain precise records of student progress and achievements.
- Provide clear and valuable feedback to both students and parents.
- Compile high-quality academic reports in accordance with school standards.
- Establish aspirational yet attainable goals for students.

Student Support and Pastoral Care

The Teacher of Computer Science will:

- Facilitate the academic and pastoral growth of students.
- Collaborate with mentors, pastoral staff, and learning support teams to ensure students receive the necessary support.
- Ensure that students with additional learning requirements are accommodated according to their Individual Education Plans.
- Foster positive behavior and uphold the school's conduct expectations.

Contribution to School Life

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

QUALIFICATIONS


- Essential: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Desirable: PGCE, QTS, or a recognized equivalent teaching qualification.

LANGUAGES

- Proficient in English.

WORKING EXPERIENCE

- A minimum of two years’ teaching experience in a UK or international school setting.
- Experience in teaching Computer Science to examination level.
- Familiarity with preparing students for IGCSE and/or A Level examinations is advantageous.

Compensation

£2,700 - £3,700 per month (Initial Flights + Relocation Allowance + International Insurance + Housing + Annual Flights)
