Catering to students aged 3–18, DIS is a not-for-profit establishment and part of the Al-Futtaim Education Foundation. Established in 2005, the school is celebrated for its exceptional, inclusive, and holistic educational approach. Our latest inspection recognized the following strengths:
•
Staff take great pride in the school, affirming that it is well-led, safe, and inclusive.

The teaching, learning, and assessment quality throughout the school is outstanding.
•
Educators maintain high expectations and consistently encourage students to excel.
•
Staff members feel respected, valued, and treated fairly.
•
The curriculum is meticulously planned, well-structured, and effectively builds on prior knowledge.
•
There is a strong emphasis on academic progress and achievement.
DIS hosts a culturally diverse student community, representing over 90 nationalities, which is integral to our school’s ethos. Our exceptional facilities promote a holistic educational experience, offering abundant opportunities in sports, performing arts, technology, leadership, creativity, and academic enrichment.
While we have a non-selective admissions policy, our students consistently achieve remarkable examination results comparable to leading UK schools and gain admission to prestigious universities worldwide. Digital literacy is embedded throughout the curriculum, equipping students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.
In the Early Years, our tailored, play-based continuous provision ensures that students are rigorously assessed according to the EYFS framework, laying a solid foundation for future learning. In Primary, students enjoy a broad and enriching curriculum that includes various non-core subjects. In Secondary, students undertake IGCSEs in Year 11 before advancing to the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) in Years 12 and 13.
DIS operates under the governance of the Al-Futtaim Education Foundation (AFEF), a not-for-profit initiative from the Al-Futtaim family, supporting the vision of the Government of Dubai and KHDA to provide future-ready education while maximizing positive social impact.
The Post: English Teacher
The successful candidate will join a distinguished department. As an English teacher at DIS, you will collaborate with a dedicated and skilled team that contributes to the planning and delivery of an engaging curriculum and supports the enrichment opportunities provided by English throughout the school.
The IB English Language and Literature course is well-established within the department, guiding the educational journey of all English students from Year 7 onward. Our concept-driven curriculum enables students to enhance their English skills alongside their learner behaviors and communication abilities.
Most educators in the department teach across the three Key Stages, which allows us to concentrate our staff development on exemplary teaching and learning in English, fostering an environment where all staff can lead and take risks in their practice. At KS4, students pursue IGCSE English language and literature.
Our GCSE results have demonstrated a three-year trend of exceptional outcomes, with 89% of students achieving grades A*-B in the last academic year. Student success extends into the IB program, with 92% of students attaining a Level 5 or above last year, and 60% achieving a Level 6 or higher. This advertised position presents an exciting opportunity to become part of a popular and successful department.
The ideal candidate will possess:
•
Experience teaching GCSE English is essential, while A Level/IB experience is preferred.
•
A B.Ed. or degree in a related field, along with a PGCE / PGDE or equivalent, demonstrating outstanding subject knowledge.
•
A proven history of delivering exceptional learning and teaching.
•
A mindset that recognizes the potential for all students to excel, combined with the passion and drive to help them achieve.
•
Experience that will enable contributions to our enriched curriculum program.
Safeguarding Statement:
Deira International School, Festival City, is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its students. An ICPC (International Police Clearance Certificate) or an equivalent police check, along with three professional references, is a requirement for all appointments.
