Position Overview

This is a 1.0 PY (full-time) role.

About the School

The Nunavut Department of Education is committed to promoting staff growth through effective professional learning opportunities. Presently, schools in Nunavut are focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students while ensuring that learning experiences are culturally appropriate and respectful.

Arviligruaq Ilinniarvik School is situated in the scenic hamlet of Kugaaruk, serving the local community. The school accommodates approximately 381 students in a K-12 setting and has a staff of 46. The school and its community are richly influenced by Inuit cultural traditions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • Teaching certification recognized by Nunavut
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience and/or training in contemporary assessment methods
  • Demonstrated success in implementing differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Background in classroom management and creating positive learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behaviour Supports, etc.)
  • Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience
  • Training and/or experience in an ESL environment
  • Proven ability to foster positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and stakeholders
  • Successful experience in conflict resolution
  • Ability to utilize data analysis for improving student learning
  • Competent computer skills and knowledge of administrative software
  • Coursework, certification, and demonstrated leadership experience
  • Proven capability to lead teamwork and collaborative initiatives

Additional Information

Please be advised: Subsidized housing is available, although sharing may be required.

The salary range for certified vice principals is $105,049 prorated/annum to $153,368 prorated/annum. The Northern Allowance for Kugaaruk is $26,639 prorated/annum.

Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate and provide a current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) before finalizing their appointment. External applicants (not currently with the Government of Nunavut) must also submit a current CRC and VSC before their appointment can be completed.
