About This Role

Cairo English School, a leading British International School in Cairo, Egypt, is seeking a University Guidance Counselor to join our team in August 2025. Our school caters to students from Early Years to Year 12, boasting a community of over 2,000 learners. Located in New Cairo, we enjoy excellent facilities and proximity to Cairo Airport (approximately 10 minutes) and Downtown (about 45 minutes).

We are proud to be fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and designated as an authorized IB World School. Additionally, we are members of the British Schools of the Middle East (BSME), British Schools Overseas (BSO), and the European Council of International Schools (ECIS). Our curriculum follows the English National Curriculum, culminating in IGCSE at the end of Year 10. Upon successful completion of their IGCSE examinations, students may opt to pursue A Levels or the IB Diploma. The BSO's recent inspection report states: ‘Cairo English School provides a high quality education that meets the needs of its pupils. It has many outstanding features and is continuing to develop further through the investments of its owners, and the hard work and innovation of its leaders. The school is oversubscribed.’ (BSO Inspection Report February 2022).

The University Guidance Counselor will be integral in guiding Year 11 and 12 students through the university application journey, providing personalized counseling and ensuring that students fulfill the criteria for their chosen universities. The successful candidate will join a warm and supportive staff team and will collaborate closely with parents and the local community, all of whom maintain high standards and expectations.

Job Summary:

The University Guidance Counselor's primary responsibility is to assist Year 11 and 12 students throughout the university application process, offering valuable guidance and ensuring that students meet the necessary requirements for their selected universities.

Key Responsibilities:

University Applications:

  • Support students in completing their university applications and ensure all deadlines are adhered to.
  • Oversee and provide constructive feedback on personal statements to improve students' chances of acceptance.

One-on-One Counseling:

  • Hold regular one-on-one counseling sessions with Year 11 and Year 12 students to explore academic objectives, university selections, and career ambitions.
  • Offer personalized advice based on each student's unique strengths and interests.

University Destination Tracking:

  • Monitor and track the university placements of students within the school.
  • Compile comprehensive reports on students' university placements and outcomes.

Parent Engagement:

  • Organize and facilitate meetings with parents to discuss their children's progress and inform them of university requirements.
  • Maintain transparent communication with parents regarding necessary documentation for university applications, such as transcripts, statements of results, and recommendation letters.

Academic Monitoring:

  • Regularly check in with Year 11 and Year 12 students about their Interim Grades (IG) to ensure they satisfy the minimum university admission standards.
  • Provide additional resources and support to help students enhance their academic performance as necessary.

Internship Opportunities:

  • Create and manage internship opportunities for Year 11 students preparing to transition into Year 12, helping them gain practical experience in their selected fields.

University Fairs and Events:

  • Organize and host university fairs and evening events at the school, inviting a variety of universities to present their programs and offerings.
  • Facilitate workshops and presentations to educate students on the university application process and the options available to them.

Counseling Sessions:

  • Provide counseling sessions for Year 11 and Year 12 students and their parents to address concerns.
