Responsibilities
Role Summary:
The Technician - Performing Arts Set Designer plays a crucial role in Cranleigh Abu Dhabi’s Performing Arts department, focusing on the creative and technical facets of set and lighting design for school performances, events, and practical exams. This position necessitates hands-on design expertise, proactive collaboration, and support with staff, students, and various departments to craft immersive and engaging environments for the Cranleigh community.
Key Responsibilities:
Set & Lighting Design
- Oversee set and lighting design for all internal performances, productions, concerts, and occasional external events.
- Collaborate with the Director of Performing Arts, Theatre Technician, and event leaders to actualize creative visions while ensuring high production standards.
- Work alongside the Marketing and Social Media teams to guarantee cohesive design elements for school-wide and Performing Arts events.
- Design and operate the lighting desk as required to support event productions.
School and Event Support
- Work with school teams to create visually striking environments for special occasions (e.g., WOW Days, Sports Days, National/International Days).
- Provide creative support to departments for displays and classroom decorations that enhance the educational experience.
Resource and Facility Management
- Organize and maintain safe storage for set, costume, and prop resources, overseeing a borrowing system and inventory of all materials.
- Collaborate with IT staff for software requirements and ensure that equipment and spaces are current and functional.
Student and Staff Engagement
- Lead training sessions for students and staff on set and prop handling for performances, including a props-making CCA and safe set movement training.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Execute risk assessments for all Performing Arts activities and uphold compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Ensure regular health and safety updates for all users of Performing Arts spaces and equipment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Experience
- At least 2 years of experience in set design and construction
- Experience in a school environment, such as art workshops
- Proficient in creating designs that enhance performances and educational settings
