Responsibilities
Role Summary:
The Technician - Performing Arts Set Designer plays an essential role within the Performing Arts department at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, overseeing the creative and technical elements of set and lighting design for school performances, events, and practical examinations. This position necessitates hands-on design work, proactive assistance, and collaboration with staff, students, and various departments to craft immersive and engaging experiences for the Cranleigh community.
Key Responsibilities:
Set & Lighting Design
- Oversee set and lighting design for all internal performances, productions, concerts, and occasional external events.
- Collaborate with the Director of Performing Arts, Theatre Technician, and event leaders to realize creative visions while upholding high production standards.
- Work alongside the Marketing and Social Media teams to ensure cohesive design elements for both school-wide and Performing Arts events.
- Design and operate the lighting desk as required to support event production.
School and Event Support
- Collaborate with school teams to craft visually striking environments for special school events (e.g., WOW Days, Sports Days, National/International Day).
- Provide creative support to departments for displays and classroom decorations that enhance the educational atmosphere.
Resource and Facility Management
- Ensure organized and safe storage of set, costume, and prop resources, managing a borrowing system and maintaining an inventory of all materials.
- Coordinate with IT staff regarding software needs and ensure that equipment and facilities are current.
Student and Staff Engagement
- Conduct training for students and staff in the handling of sets and props for performances, including a props-making CCA and safe set movement training.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Perform risk assessments for all Performing Arts activities and adhere to health and safety regulations.
- Keep all users of Performing Arts spaces and equipment informed with regular health and safety updates.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Experience
- At least 2 years of experience in set design and construction.
- Experience within a school environment, such as art workshops.
- Proficient in creating designs that enrich both performances and learning settings.

- Proficient in English with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
