Head of Math - August 2026

The Head of Mathematics is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for the Mathematics department throughout the school, ensuring exceptional teaching and learning in both the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs (including frameworks such as PYP, MYP, and DP) and the American curriculum. This role encompasses curriculum development, instructional leadership, staff management, monitoring student achievement, and aligning with international best practices. The Head of Mathematics cultivates a collaborative environment, promotes academic innovation, and maintains high standards for student progress and achievement at all grade levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership & Vision
  Establish and execute a clear vision for Mathematics across the school. Ensure that IB and American curriculum standards are aligned both vertically and horizontally. Lead curriculum review cycles and guarantee compliance with IB and accreditation standards. Encourage inquiry-based, conceptual, and skill-focused mathematics learning.
• Curriculum & Instruction
  Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of Mathematics across all divisions. Ensure alignment with IB program standards and practices, as well as American standards (e.g., Common Core or applicable state standards). Monitor unit planning, assessment design, and differentiation strategies. Support the integration of technology and innovative teaching methods.
• Teaching & Learning Excellence
  Coach and mentor mathematics teachers to enhance instructional quality. Conduct lesson observations and provide constructive feedback. Lead professional development initiatives within the department. Advocate for data-driven instruction and analysis of student performance.
• Assessment & Student Achievement
  Manage internal and external assessment processes. Monitor the results of the IB Diploma Programme mathematics and other standardized tests. Analyze student data to identify trends and implement intervention strategies. Ensure consistent grading practices across various grade levels.
• Staff Leadership & Management
  Oversee the recruitment, induction, and evaluation of mathematics staff. Promote collaboration, teamwork, and professional development within the department. Lead departmental meetings and take part in whole-school leadership meetings. Manage the departmental budget and resources.
• Student Support & Engagement
  Encourage enrichment opportunities such as math competitions, clubs, and academic challenges. Assist students with course selection and academic planning, including IB Mathematics pathways. Ensure inclusive practices for a diverse range of learners, including EAL and SEN students.
• Compliance & Accreditation
  Ensure that documentation and practices meet IB requirements. Contribute to accreditation processes and school improvement planning. Uphold high standards of academic integrity.
