Aldar Academies is on the lookout for a Head of English (IB & IGCSE) to join the team at Bateen World Academy starting in January 2025.

Recently, the school expanded its offerings to include primary education, starting with FS2 to Year 3 and now providing a full primary curriculum from FS2 to Year 6. The introduction of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) enriches the school’s educational landscape, allowing for a seamless all-through experience from FS1 to Year 13, featuring PYP, UK, and IB Diploma pathways.

Responsibilities
Strategic Direction and Development of the Department
- Formulate and execute policies and practices for the department that align with the school’s vision and commitment to high academic standards and effective teaching and learning.
- Develop, monitor, and assess short, medium, and long-term plans for departmental growth.
- Utilize data effectively to identify underachieving students in the department and devise action plans to support their progress.
- Analyze and interpret relevant school data to inform departmental and school self-evaluation processes.
- Ensure the development, implementation, and regular review of appropriate schemes of work for all year groups and courses, including provisions for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.
Teaching and Learning
- Guarantee curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression within the department for all students, including those with special educational needs and high-ability learners.
- Establish and enforce clear policies for assessing, recording, and reporting on student achievements.
- Set expectations for staff regarding achievement standards, teaching quality, and student behavior.
- Assess the quality of teaching and learning within the department, identifying effective practices and areas needing improvement, and take necessary actions to enhance teaching and learning quality.
- Ensure the department actively contributes to the school's CAS Programme and organizes after-school Booster/Revision Sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP courses.
Leading and Managing Staff
- Manage team performance in line with the school’s performance management policy.
- Set clear expectations and foster constructive working relationships within the team, ensuring collaboration, support, accountability, and high professional standards.
- Conduct regular department meetings with documented agendas focusing on enhancing student achievement and teaching standards.
Managing Resources
- Efficiently deploy staff and resources effectively.
- Maintain effective oversight of the department’s Resource and CapEx budgets.
- Utilize accommodation effectively to create a stimulating teaching and learning environment in accordance with the Learning Environment Policy.
- Ensure a safe working and learning environment, adhering to health and safety policies and regulations.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the school’s CAS Programme by leading or supporting one after-school activity each term, including the leadership of Model United Nations (MUN).
- Act as an Academic Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor for Year 12/13 students.
- Fulfill duties as part of the staff duty rota.
- Provide cover for absent colleagues as needed.
- Supervise examinations, including a minimum of one evening and one weekend external examination.
