About This Role

Haileybury Malta welcomed students from 15 different nationalities in Years 3-8 in September 2023, and is set to expand to include Years 1-10 starting September 2024. By September 2025, we will also cater to students from Reception to Year 11, with plans to become a full 3-18 institution by September 2027. Currently, we are situated at Villa Aspinall, a temporary campus located near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Tarxien Temples, while we anticipate the completion of our permanent facilities within the stunning former Royal Naval Hospital in Mtarfa, slated for relocation in early 2026.

Our sister school, Haileybury UK, has played a vital role in supporting our development and will continue to do so as we progress. We offer a comprehensive British curriculum, including the Cambridge IGCSE courses, and will introduce the IB Diploma Programme upon accreditation. This pathway will provide our local and international students with enhanced flexibility regarding their university options and preferred study countries.

At Haileybury Malta, we prioritize academic excellence while also promoting student well-being and the essential skills required for leading fulfilling lives. As a PSB (Pre-Senior Baccalaureate) school, we integrate core skills such as Leadership, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Learning, Independence, Continuous Improvement, and Communication into our students' everyday experiences. In addition to strong pastoral support, our pupils have ample opportunities to pursue their interests and talents through a vibrant co-curricular program. Our four houses—Angelo, Chambray, Elmo, and Rocco—are named after Maltese forts, providing a platform for engaging inter-house competitions.

This position has become available due to the current holder's transition to the Headship of an international school. It presents an exciting opportunity during a pivotal time for our institution, as we anticipate significant growth in 2026 and move closer to becoming a 3-18 school. This role encompasses responsibilities across the whole school but places a substantial emphasis on advancing the academic development of the Senior School. The successful applicant will have the chance to influence the future of our evolving establishment and contribute to its ethos and academic success. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented, proactive, and dedicated individual to leverage their experience and help shape the school into a center of academic excellence. Residing in Malta offers numerous advantages, including its rich cultural heritage and an array of outdoor activities.

The application deadline is set for Friday, 7 February. Longlist interviews will be conducted online during the following week, while shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in the UK on Monday, 24 February.

To apply, please submit a completed application form along with a cover letter addressed to our Founding Head, Mrs. Louise Salmond Smith, at head@haileyburymalta.com.

Haileybury Malta is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Please note that all necessary pre-employment checks are mandatory before commencing employment at the school.
