The Position

The British School of Ulaanbaatar is on the lookout for an eager, dedicated, and highly skilled Music teacher for an initial two-year contract, starting from August 2026 through July 2028, with the possibility of extension thereafter. While there is some flexibility regarding Key Stage Three teaching, the preferred candidate will have the capability to instruct students from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) up to Key Stage Two (Year 6).

A detailed job description accompanies this posting.

Ideal candidates will possess:

• A UK training background with a valid teaching qualification, including B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or an equivalent (PGCE/PGDE should be paired with a relevant Bachelor’s Degree).

• Teaching experience within the UK or internationally.

• Strong subject expertise.

• A history of delivering exceptional teaching and learning experiences.

Familiarity with the National Curriculum of England and Wales is crucial, and experience in UK or international schools following a British-style curriculum is highly advantageous. We seek professionals who are adaptable, innovative, and have a sense of cultural awareness and adventure.

Alongside teaching responsibilities, BSU has a vibrant extra-curricular program in which all staff are encouraged to take part. We particularly invite candidates interested in actively engaging with the Ulaanbaatar community and beyond.

The academic year runs from mid-August to mid-June, as outlined in the attached 2026/27 academic calendar.

The Institution

Established in 2012, the British School of Ulaanbaatar has emerged as a premier institution in Central Asia, dedicated to equipping students aged three to eighteen with a world-class education that emphasizes academic achievement and personal development through challenges. We take pride in our academic success and the diverse educational opportunities offered to students of all ages. The school follows the Cambridge International curriculum, guiding students towards IGCSEs and A-Levels. Most of our graduates proceed to esteemed international universities worldwide. We welcome both expatriate and Mongolian families, fostering a close-knit community atmosphere.

BSU holds memberships with the Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO) and the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), achieving Patron’s Accreditation in 2018 and full BSO accreditation in 2022. We are part of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network and joined the Council of International Schools (CIS) in June 2023. The most recent BSO inspection occurred in March 2025.

The Location

Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, features a modern urban landscape alongside historic lamaseries and ger districts. The city boasts a lively social scene where locals and expatriates mingle effortlessly. Direct flights connect Ulaanbaatar to major global cities, including Seoul, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Istanbul, as well as more remote domestic locations.

Surrounded by stunning landscapes, Ulaanbaatar offers ample opportunities for outdoor activities and rich cultural experiences. Adventurous individuals can enjoy trekking, horseback riding, skiing, cycling, and camping while exploring the lakes, forests, mountains, and deserts of this remarkable country.

Mongolia's climate is characterized by extremes; however, the low humidity makes both summer and winter temperatures more manageable than one might expect. Frequent high-pressure systems create clear blue skies, allowing residents to appreciate the breathtaking scenery. Significant improvements in air quality have been made in Ulaanbaatar over the past six years, thanks to government initiatives promoting smokeless fuels.

Terms and Conditions

The initial contract will commence on 12th August 2026, coinciding with the induction and onboarding process for new staff. Competitive salaries are offered, reflecting experience. Additional benefits include full tuition fee remission for dependent children, medical insurance, and allowances for flights and luggage at the beginning and end of the contract. Furnished accommodation on or near the school campus is available and is the preference for most expatriate staff. Comprehensive details regarding terms and conditions will be shared after successful interviews.

Application Process

To apply for this role, please provide the following:

• A completed Schrole online application form that includes comprehensive information about your qualifications, professional training, and previous employment, accompanied by a cover letter expressing your interest and suitability for the position, highlighting any relevant skills and attributes.

• Contact information for at least two referees, one of whom should be your current or most recent employer (Head of School/Principal or Chair of the Governing Body).

All necessary documents should be submitted to the School via the Schrole portal. The deadline for applications is Friday, 10th April 2026. Early applications are encouraged as interviews will be conducted online as soon as possible, and the School reserves the right to fill the position before the deadline. The recruitment process will be entirely online, and only candidates shortlisted for interviews will be contacted.

The British School of Ulaanbaatar is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children and young people, and it expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Whistleblowing Policy are included in this advertisement, and we recommend all interested candidates review them prior to applying.

Candidates who are successful in the interview process should be prepared for comprehensive background and reference checks, as well as the provision of personal and medical information required for entry into Mongolia. Referees will be asked to confirm that applicants are not involved in any ongoing safeguarding or disciplinary investigations and are not aware of any issues that would prevent working with children. Applicants from the U.K. will undergo vetting and barring checks before arriving in Mongolia, with similar checks required for candidates of other nationalities. Additionally, all applicants must provide certificates of good conduct from any countries where they have previously lived or worked. It is essential that candidates understand that any past criminal activity or convictions on their permanent record will disqualify them from employment with BSU and residency in Mongolia.

Compensation
