About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is looking for a committed and talented Upper Elementary Teacher (Grades 3-5) to join our Elementary Education team.
The expected start date for this role is August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
•
Foster and maintain the ethos and standards of excellence as detailed in the GEMS Core Values.
•
Deliver the prescribed curriculum while demonstrating comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the subject area.
•
Craft and present engaging lessons that motivate students, utilizing appropriate resources and classroom environments to cater to diverse learning styles.
•
Provide written documentation of planning and preparation upon request. Keep detailed records of curriculum and annual plans, attendance, instructional materials, assessment methods, etc.
•
Consistently follow GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
•
Instruct assigned students according to their individual requirements, employing effective teaching strategies that address diverse abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, and students with varying academic competencies.
•
Assign and assess tasks, documenting and reporting on students' academic growth, progress, and achievements, and modifying the curriculum to suit each student's needs.
•
Exhibit competence in the use of media and technology in the classroom.
•
Support the overall development and well-being of students, providing guidance on educational matters.
•
Engage with external stakeholders as needed (e.g., officials from the Ministry of Education).
•
Participate in appraisal, Performance Management processes, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
•
Collaborate with colleagues in developing teaching materials, resources, curricula, and pastoral care initiatives.
•
Take part in, and lead when appropriate, the school's co-curricular and extra-curricular programs. Build positive working relationships through effective leadership and sharing of resources, ideas, and experiences.
•
Supervise and encourage safe and appropriate student behavior. Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
•
Promote cultural awareness and understanding while nurturing a passion for learning.
•
Assist in organizing and coordinating school events and activities (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).
•
Regularly communicate with parents, advocating for the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents informed about their children's progress while maintaining student confidentiality.
•
Demonstrate initiative and commitment beyond standard working hours when necessary.
•
Attend staff meetings and engage in committees as required.
•
Perform additional tasks as assigned by direct and indirect supervisors.
Ideal candidates will need to:
•

•
Hold a B.Ed or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Elementary Education) along with a PGCE/PGDE or an equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.
•
Have a solid understanding of how to incorporate ICT in educational settings to enhance teaching and learning.
•
Be a passionate educator dedicated to teaching and possess a strong command of their subject area.
•
Exhibit excellent communication skills, able to build relationships with students and colleagues while contributing to the wider school community.
•
Have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group.
