Qikiqtani School Operations is on the lookout for qualified candidates to fill the role of Language Specialist for grades 7-12.

This is a full-time role (1.0 FTE). Please note that subsidized staff housing will not be provided.

School Overview:
Quluaq School accommodates around 350 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Nunavut Department of Education emphasizes staff development through well-structured professional learning programs. Presently, schools in Nunavut are focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students while ensuring that educational experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.

Required Qualifications:
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Inuktitut
- Eligibility for a Nunavut Teaching Certificate as a Language Specialist

If a qualified candidate is unavailable, this position may be filled on a one-year term basis under a Letter of Teaching Authority Certification.

Desired Qualifications:
- Relevant subject knowledge, training, and experience
- Familiarity with modern assessment techniques
- Demonstrated ability to utilize differentiated instruction and inclusive methodologies
- Experience and/or training in classroom management and creating positive learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports, etc.)
- Cross-cultural and/or teaching experience in northern educational settings
- Training and/or experience in Balanced Literacy
- Background in ESL teaching
- Proven capacity for building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and community members
- Proficiency in using educational technology, including SMART Boards
- Strong organizational skills for planning (including lesson, theme, unit, year, and student support plans)

Salary: $78,206 to $94,389
The Northern Allowance for Clyde River, Nunavut, amounts to $22,978.

Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must have a valid Nunavut teaching certificate and are required to submit a current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) before the appointment can be finalized. External applicants (not currently employed by the Government of Nunavut) must also submit a current CRC and VSC prior to confirming the appointment.
