About This Role

Epsom College in Malaysia is looking to hire a Physical Education Teacher for August 2025.

Our Physical Education & Sports department is in search of a passionate and skilled PE teacher to join our vibrant and growing team. This position will encompass designing and delivering PE, Games, and swimming lessons, training sports teams, and assisting with fixtures and significant tournaments. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the chance to contribute to a wide range of co-curricular clubs that operate before and after school. This role offers the opportunity to develop and lead a sports specialization based on the evolving needs of the department.

Students engage in scheduled PE lessons throughout the week, where they can discover new activities, acquire new skills, and enhance their fitness and well-being. After school, there are extensive enrichment opportunities with both competitive sports teams and recreational activities occurring weekly.

The PE department is under the leadership of the Director of Sports, who manages all aspects of the PE and sports program, both curricular and extracurricular. As part of this team, you will collaborate with 7 PE staff members and 4 sports coaches. Epsom College Malaysia is looking for a fully qualified and experienced Physical Education teacher to implement a comprehensive and varied sports curriculum across all Key Stages.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering lessons throughout the school, coaching teams, participating in fixtures locally, in Kuala Lumpur, and abroad, mentoring students, and sharing best practices.

Academic Responsibilities:

- Curriculum Delivery: Execute the PE curriculum across all year groups, possessing experience in both PE and academic PE, to ensure a consistent and high-quality learning experience for all students.
- Multi-Sport Expertise: Exhibit exceptional coaching skills and proficiency in a variety of sports, including but not limited to Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Swimming, and (Touch) Rugby. Your diverse skill set will be essential in engaging and coaching students across the school's extensive sports program.
- Teaching Excellence: Demonstrate teaching excellence through innovative, student-centered instructional methods that foster enthusiasm for PE, sports, and physical activity.
- Student Engagement: Actively encourage student participation in sports activities, promoting decision-making, tactical awareness, skill development, and a commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
- Inclusive Teaching: Create an inclusive learning environment that supports students of all abilities, ensuring everyone has the chance to succeed and enjoy sports.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues in the PE department and throughout the school to share best practices, contribute to curriculum development, and assist in planning and organizing sports events.
- Classroom Management: Maintain discipline among students in line with the school’s behavior policy and keep an organized workspace.
- Assessment and Progress Tracking: Implement effective assessment strategies and utilize tracking tools to monitor and evaluate student progress in sports, providing constructive feedback to aid their development.
- Co-curricular Involvement: Participate in co-curricular sports activities by coaching and organizing teams for competitions, enhancing the overall sports culture within the school. Actively contribute to Saturday Sports activities, especially during weekends without fixtures, focusing on squad/team enhancement, which may include organizing internal tournaments or leading training sessions.
- Health and Safety: Prioritize student safety and well-being during PE and sports activities by following established safety protocols and ensuring a secure environment.
- Continuous Professional Development: Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities to remain updated on current trends, coaching techniques, and advancements in sports education.
- Parent Communication: Maintain effective communication with parents regarding students' progress and upcoming sports events, fostering positive engagement in their children's sports education. Write detailed reports on student performance that provide valuable insights into achievements and areas for improvement, ensuring alignment with current teaching practices and educational innovations.
- Fixtures: Participate in midweek and occasional Saturday fixtures, demonstrating a commitment to supporting and coaching students during sports competitions outside of regular school hours.
- Flexibility: Show flexibility by covering lessons within the department during planned staff absences and emergencies, and adapt to coach teams as needed according to the department's evolving demands and specific sporting events.
- Sporting Residential Involvement: Attend sporting residential events as required, actively participating in and overseeing sports-related activities, including overnight stays to ensure student well-being and supervision during extended sports programs.
- Professional Duties and Responsibilities: Fulfill professional duties as outlined by the school, actively participating in and contributing to whole school events to foster a collaborative and cohesive school community.
- Meetings: Attend regular departmental meetings to contribute to curriculum planning and improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

- A strong honours degree
- An accredited teaching qualification
- Evidence of being or having the potential to be an outstanding teacher
- Native speaker level proficiency in English across all communication forms
- The ability to inspire and motivate children
- Willingness to make a significant contribution to the co-curricular life of the school
- Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, children, and parents
- Approachability, accessibility, and flexibility
- High organizational and communication skills
- Sympathy with the values and needs of a boarding environment

Desirable Criteria:

- A specialization in Basketball or Swimming
- Experience in a boarding school environment
- Teaching experience in Pre-Prep, Prep, and Senior School settings
- High competence in a range of traditional British sports
- Coaching and/or officiating qualifications in at least one major sport
