Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Educator to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing educational programs that respect diversity, promote equity, and honor the vibrant cultural heritage of our community. This position requires a strong commitment to indigenization, an emphasis on competency-based education, and innovative land-based teaching methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community partners to develop and execute a curriculum that is competency-based and rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.
  • Cultural Inclusion: Foster an educational environment that values and incorporates diverse Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that the curriculum authentically reflects the local Indigenous culture.
  • Equity and Inclusion: Implement strategies that promote equity and inclusion within the school, addressing disparities and fostering a sense of belonging for all students.
  • Community Engagement: Serve as a liaison between the school and the community, actively soliciting input, collaboration, and feedback to continuously improve educational programs.
  • Land-Based Education: Create and integrate land-based learning opportunities within the curriculum, enhancing students' connection to the land and traditional practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education
  • Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate

The following criteria will be essential in the hiring process:

  • A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.
  • Experience with inquiry-based instructional techniques.
  • Experience in curriculum implementation with a focus on competency-based education.
  • Experience in competency-based assessment and evaluation.
  • A proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Familiarity with the Inclusive Schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.
  • Knowledge of principles and methodologies related to land-based education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
