Position Overview:
We are looking for a passionate and committed Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing educational programs that respect diversity, promote equity, and celebrate the vibrant cultural heritage of our community. This position requires a strong commitment to indigenization, a focus on competency-based education, and an innovative approach to land-based learning.
Responsibilities:
- Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community members to develop and deliver a competency-based curriculum that is rooted in Indigenous values and knowledge.
- Cultural Inclusion: Foster a learning environment that acknowledges and incorporates a range of Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture.
- Equity and Inclusion: Implement initiatives that promote equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing disparities and fostering a sense of belonging for all students.
- Community Engagement: Serve as a bridge between the school and the community, actively soliciting input, collaboration, and feedback to continuously enhance educational programs.
- Land-Based Education: Create and integrate land-based learning experiences into the curriculum, encouraging a deep connection to the land and traditional practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education
- Eligibility for a teaching certificate in the Northwest Territories
The following criteria will be essential in the selection process:
- A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions.
- Experience with inquiry-based instructional practices.
- Background in curriculum implementation, particularly in competency-based education.
- Knowledge of competency-based assessment and evaluation methods.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Familiarity with inclusive schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.
- Understanding of land-based education principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
