The Role
The Head of House and Wellbeing holds a senior leadership position responsible for the pastoral care, safeguarding, wellbeing, and residential experience of athletes at Apex2100. This role ensures that athletes are enabled to Learn, Train, and Perform within a safe, structured, and nurturing environment, balancing the demands of high-performance sports with personal growth, mental health, and overall welfare. The Head of House and Wellbeing is essential in safeguarding athlete wellbeing, leading the House team, and instilling Apex values into daily routines.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Leadership & Wellbeing
•
Provide strategic oversight for athlete wellbeing throughout the Academy.
•
Guarantee that every athlete feels secure, supported, and recognized within the House system.
•
Foster a culture that encourages:

Monitor athlete welfare and take early action when concerns arise.
House System & Residential Life
•
Lead and oversee the House & Wellbeing team, including Houseparents and House Assistants.
•
Ensure exemplary standards of care, supervision, and structure in boarding settings.
•

•
Assist staff in maintaining consistency and professionalism in pastoral roles.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
•
Serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Apex2100.

Ensure that safeguarding policies are:

Reviewed and adhered to across the Academy
•
Address safeguarding concerns following Apex procedures and legal obligations.
•
Coordinate with external agencies as necessary and maintain precise records.
Liaison with Parents & Staff
•
Act as the primary contact for parents on wellbeing and pastoral issues.
•
Establish strong, professional relationships with families founded on trust and transparency.
•
Collaborate closely with:

Ensure information is communicated appropriately, confidentially, and consistently.

Ensure that House staff maintain Apex's professional and safeguarding standards at all times.
Leadership & Contribution to Academy Life
•
Be an active participant in the senior leadership team.
•
Contribute to the development of policies related to wellbeing, safeguarding, and residential life.
•
Support staff wellbeing and exemplify professional leadership behaviours.
•
Participate in duty rotas and Academy events as necessary.
Person Specification
Essential
•
Demonstrated experience in pastoral leadership, boarding, or youth welfare settings.
•
Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection protocols.
•
Ability to effectively lead, support, and manage staff.
•
Calm, empathetic, and authoritative leadership approach.
•
Excellent communication abilities with young people, parents, and colleagues.
•
Capacity to thrive in a high-performance, fast-paced environment.
Desirable
•
Experience in elite sports, education, or residential environments.
•
Training in mental health or wellbeing.
•
Previous role as a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
•
Multilingual capabilities (English required; French beneficial).
