The School

Established in 1894, Oporto British School proudly holds the title of the oldest British School on the European mainland. It follows the English National Curriculum through Key Stage 3, before transitioning to the Cambridge IGCSE and later the IB Diploma Programme. Our students have demonstrated remarkable success in the IB Diploma in recent years. Oporto British School has successfully undergone a thorough ISI inspection and is accredited by both COBIS and CIS. The Position

We are seeking a committed and passionate Teacher of Mathematics to join our dynamic Secondary Section starting September 2026.

This full-time role will involve teaching Mathematics at Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and the IB Diploma Programme. A willingness or ability to progress towards teaching IB Mathematics at Higher Level would be highly advantageous.

You will be part of an enthusiastic and supportive Mathematics department that plays a crucial role within the school, with students achieving results that exceed both UK and international benchmarks. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to exemplary teaching and learning, capable of inspiring students with a genuine enthusiasm for Mathematics, and keen to actively participate in the broader aspects of school life.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification
  • Have experience teaching Mathematics up to the school leaving age
  • Ideally possess familiarity with IGCSE Mathematics and the IB Diploma Programme, along with an understanding of its foundational pedagogical principles
  • Demonstrate a student-centered approach, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to adapt to various learning needs
  • Appreciate teamwork, share best practices, and contribute to the continuous development of the department

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
