About This Role

Role and Responsibilities

The Coordinator(s) of Student Support serve as Learning Leaders, tasked with overseeing the development of the AISJ curriculum and interventions for the department, as well as the execution of that curriculum and interventions.

Scholar Supports encompass the Learning Support Department (mild, moderate, and intensive), Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Gifted and Talented Education, English Language Learning, and Speech and Language. The coordinator will play a pivotal role in organizing, leading, and shaping the curriculum and support services.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the curriculum, including ILP goals, is current and accurate.
  • Streamline the ILP processes across all services.
  • Establish and implement annual objectives for the department.
  • Uphold and advocate for the values and mission of the school within the department.
  • Design and ensure the delivery of core learning experiences within your area of expertise.
  • Collaborate on creating assessment tools and analyze their impact on student learning.
  • Guide the evaluation of assessments to identify appropriate next steps.
  • Recommend psycho-educational testing to gather comprehensive information about each student's needs.
  • Suggest in-house and external services (Speech/Language therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychotherapy) as necessary.
  • Manage the timely procurement of teaching resources, textbooks, and departmental supplies.
  • Stay informed about curriculum advancements and trends in learning disabilities.
  • Conduct regular department meetings to review programs, plan improvements, and assess effectiveness within the school's curriculum.
  • Meet consistently with department faculty to ensure alignment and support for programs.
  • Participate in and contribute to Team Leader meetings.
  • Create materials for parents related to departmental initiatives.
  • Assist counselors and principals with the admissions process for students demonstrating a disability.
  • Collaborate with counselors to determine course placements based on individual student profiles (individual program design).
  • Facilitate ILP (Individualized Learning Plan) meetings with content area teachers to ensure effective communication and consistency in service delivery for students with specific learning needs.
  • Coordinate student referrals for learning support with the Counselor.
  • Oversee and lead case management responsibilities for department members.
  • Foster and maintain a positive working atmosphere within the department.
  • Introduce new department members to the systems and methodologies in use.
  • Guide the reporting process within your department.
  • Visit the classrooms of department members and encourage similar practices among colleagues.
  • Collaborate with all teachers to provide support for modifications, accommodations, and differentiation.
  • Assist in the implementation of an MTSS and PBIS framework.
  • Maintain connections within the vertical learning support department to ensure smooth transitions between divisions.
  • Ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications in classrooms, on assessments, and during formal standardized evaluations.
  • Advise principals on departmental issues.
  • Regularly meet with the vertical scholar support director and principals to ensure program continuity, alignment, and transitions between divisions.
  • Keep an inventory of all departmental resources.
  • Maintain updated confidential student records in a secured cabinet within the department.
