Overview
The Secondary Dean of Culture is a key leadership position focused on overseeing the pastoral care for students in Grades 6 through 12. This role involves working in partnership with the Head of Secondary, Associate Head of Secondary, Grade Level Leaders, Counselors, Learning Support Team, and IB Coordinators. The Dean will uphold the school’s Vision for Learning and is dedicated to the belief that proactive measures and research-informed educational strategies significantly contribute to student well-being. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of evidence-based practices specifically designed for middle and high school students.
Reports to: Principal of Secondary (or the Associate Principal of Secondary when the Principal is unavailable).
Core Principles
- Enhances and supports the school’s mission, educational vision, and international curriculum.
- Encourages learning and achievement for both students and adults.
- Advocates for the IB MYP and IB DP curriculum.
- Facilitates student transitions (from Elementary to Middle, Middle to High, MYP5 to DP1).
- Builds and maintains community relationships.
- Promotes a restorative justice approach for student discipline and conflict resolution.
- Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive advisory program.
- Collaborates with the Associate Head of Secondary on secondary school events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Special Education, Counseling, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related field.
- Certification or specialized training in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Applied Behavior Analysis (BCBA preferred), or restorative practices.
- 3-5 years of experience in educational settings supporting students with behavioral or social-emotional challenges.
- High proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Spanish (both written and spoken).
- Experience and/or certification in International Baccalaureate (IB) programs (MYP and DP).
- Experience in advisory programs and pastoral care.
- Background in international school environments or diverse cultural contexts.
