Physics Teacher
About This Role
Become a part of our team as a Science and A-Level Physics Teacher in Madrid.
In this position, you will teach general science at KS3 and IGCSE levels, as well as A-Level physics, at a school that prioritizes science education. You will be part of a committed team in an environment with small class sizes and well-equipped laboratories, dedicated to helping students succeed. Our students frequently advance to esteemed universities throughout Europe and the UK to pursue degrees in Medicine, Engineering, and Biomedical Sciences.
Holy Mary is an independent British Catholic school situated in Madrid, founded in 2009. Operating independently means our decisions are made locally rather than being dictated by a corporate body, resulting in less bureaucracy and greater freedom to teach in a way that you find most effective.
Why consider Madrid?
Madrid is one of Europe’s most dynamic cities, offering 300 days of sunshine each year, excellent dining options, an efficient public transport system, and a more affordable cost of living compared to other major capitals like London or Dublin. The city features a vibrant international community, convenient flights to many European capitals, and an exceptional quality of life.
Many educators who initially come for a year often decide to make Madrid their long-term home.
What we provide:
- Competitive salary: 34,000 — 42,000 EUR gross/year (based on qualifications and experience).
- Employment type: Permanent position from the outset (‘contrato indefinido’ in compliance with Spanish labor law).
- Professional development: Annual CPD programs, funded training, and opportunities to lead departmental projects.
- A comprehensive relocation and benefits package for international candidates (specifics will be discussed during the interview).
- Visa support: Complete assistance with work permits and local regulations — we will guide you through the process and reimburse any associated expenses.
Why choose Holy Mary?
We take pride in being a family-centered institution, distinct from larger school chains. Established by educators, we maintain family values in our operations.
What does this mean for you?
- You will be recognized as an individual rather than just a number. Our headteacher knows each teacher personally, and decision-making is driven by discussions rather than impersonal HR systems.
- Our students are enthusiastic learners, class sizes are small, parental engagement is strong, and behavior is generally excellent.
- Community is vital. We celebrate successes together, support one another, and uphold the unique culture that characterizes our school.
- Our Catholic identity is central, influencing our community, values, and interpersonal relationships. We welcome staff from various backgrounds who align with these values.
What we are looking for:
- Qualified teacher status (QTS), PGCE, B.Ed, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- A degree in physics or a closely related discipline.
- Experience teaching IGCSE science and A-Level physics.
- A genuine enthusiasm for the subject and a dedication to promoting student achievement.
- A commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.
- We encourage British, EU, and international applicants — assistance with visa applications is provided.
Desirable:
- Experience in a British international school; familiarity with Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel exam boards. However, we welcome outstanding science educators from all backgrounds.
How to apply:
To apply, please send your CV along with a brief cover letter to vacancies@holymary.es, expressing your interest in Holy Mary and what you can contribute to our science department. Apply via the WhatSchool platform.
We review applications on a rolling basis and will conduct interviews promptly. Strong candidates might receive an offer before the closing date.
