About This Role

Areas of Responsibility

• Planning and Preparation

• Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the subject area and consistently seek to expand that knowledge

• Recognize the developmental milestones of pre-adolescents and adolescents, and identify when a student deviates from these benchmarks

• Exhibit understanding of both progressive teaching methods related to content and those applicable across various subjects

• Tailor instruction to meet the individual and collective needs of students, leveraging data collected from classroom activities as well as broader school evaluations

• Modify teaching strategies to accommodate English language learners and students with learning disabilities

• Show awareness and sensitivity to diversity issues present in the international school context

• Select significant and relevant instructional (content and language) objectives from the approved school curriculum, setting ambitious goals for student success

• Clearly define instructional (content and language) goals in writing and communicate them to students on a daily basis

• Create learning activities that are logically connected to instructional objectives

• Employ differentiated strategies in planning, instruction, assessment, and feedback

• Use resources effectively to facilitate student achievement of instructional goals

• Refer to students’ individual education plans when designing instruction.

Instruction

• Provide clear directions and explicitly teach procedures to students

• Offer students frequent opportunities to engage in high-level cognitive tasks (e.g., Bloom’s Taxonomy)

• Motivate students to take ownership of their discussions, projects, and outcomes

• Ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or membership in any protected group as of September 2019

• Choose activities and instructional materials that align with learning objectives.

• Deliver lessons that are well-structured and coherent

• Respond to the varied interests and learning needs of students

• Integrate diverse instructional and learning approaches throughout units and lessons

Assessing Student Learning

• Design assessments that are aligned with instructional objectives and standards

• Administer assessments in a manner that ensures the validity and reliability of the data, maintaining both the testing environment and academic integrity

• Utilize various assessment methods to evaluate student learning, including project-based, inquiry-based, and other authentic assessment techniques

Creating a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment

• Build professional relationships with students during class, advisory sessions, and school or extracurricular activities

• Engage students with lessons that encourage active participation and inquiry

• Connect course content to students' lives

• Establish procedures that set high expectations for behavior and achievement

• Design and explain activities that promote high standards for student behavior and success

• Arrange classroom furniture to enhance student learning

Managing the Classroom

• Set high standards for behavior and implement procedures to uphold those standards

• Maintain a productive classroom environment

• Facilitate smooth transitions for students between different activities

• Implement procedures for non-instructional responsibilities such as attendance and punctuality

Managing Student Behavior

• Clearly define expectations for student conduct that can be articulated by the students

• Monitor student behavior and intervene promptly and preventively

• Address student misbehavior appropriately, following the guidelines outlined in the Student and Parent Handbook

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records of student progress

• Participate in meetings with students and parents, as well as curriculum, department, faculty, and student support meetings

• Engage in professional development opportunities offered at or by the school

• Contribute to school initiatives

• Foster collegial relationships with fellow staff and administrators

• Take part in school events

• Assist with extracurricular activities such as sports teams and/or student clubs

• Adhere to the GWA Code of Professional Conduct as detailed in our Child Protection Policy

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Upper School Principal or their designee.

Preferred requirements for the position:

• A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in the same subject area as the position being applied for

• Certification/licensure as a teacher from a relevant regulatory authority, such as a state or provincial Department of Education. TOEFL certification is NOT acceptable.

• A minimum of a BS or BA degree

• A major or minor in the subject area to be taught.

• University-level training in educational pedagogy

• Proven commitment to lifelong learning

Compensation

Monthly salary is NET (take-home), Additional benefits: Housing stipend: 6000 MAD/month, relocation & annual flights, international health coverage, retirement fund options, language classes, welcome stipend, laptop, SIM card
