About This Role
GEMS Al Barsha National School is seeking a committed, experienced, and innovative Head of Humanities (specializing in Geography) to lead our distinguished Humanities department, beginning in August 2026. As the Head of Humanities, you will establish high standards in the classroom, modeling exemplary teaching practices and ensuring significant achievement and progress throughout the department. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will shape curriculum design, assessment strategies, and improvements informed by data, while fostering a culture of inquiry, problem-solving, and confidence among students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and academic leadership to the Humanities department, ensuring alignment with the school's overarching objectives and the National Curriculum for England.
- Demonstrate exceptional teaching and learning practices, setting high expectations for pedagogy, assessment, and student outcomes.
- Oversee curriculum development, assessment policies, and data analysis to drive continuous improvement.
- Support, mentor, and develop teachers in the department through coaching, constructive feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture that encourages innovation and reflective practices.
- Utilize assessment data effectively to identify areas for improvement and support personalized learning.
- Cultivate enthusiasm for Humanities throughout the school by organizing enrichment activities, competitions, and co-curricular initiatives.
- Maintain effective communication with parents, colleagues, and school leadership to ensure proper tracking and reporting of student progress.
- Embody GEMS Education's Core Values and contribute to the wider school community through leadership, participation in events, and community engagement.
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Humanities or a closely related field, along with a recognized teaching qualification/license (such as PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- Thorough understanding of the National Curriculum for England and effective teaching methodologies.
- Strong grasp of data analysis, curriculum planning, and assessment for learning.

Experience
