About This Role
English AP Literature and Composition Teacher Job Description
Malvern College Qingdao (MCQ) is in the process of launching a Deeper Learning Program that emphasizes authentic, project-based education. Our goal is to support student development in five essential areas: effective communication, collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking, self-directed learning, and global leadership. We also offer a variety of Advanced Placement courses to reinforce the academic rigor of our program and bolster our students' confidence in handling college-level studies.
As an English Teacher within this initiative, you will assist students in finding their voice in English and expressing themselves with confidence at an advanced level. We recognize that English is more than just grammar and literature; it is a vital instrument for engaging with knowledge and interacting with individuals beyond MCQ. By becoming fully bilingual, our students will be equipped to communicate and collaborate with roughly one-third of the global population.
Your main teaching responsibilities will include:
- Teaching AP English Literature and Composition: You will develop a curriculum aimed at enhancing students' reading and critical analysis of carefully selected works of fiction, drama, and poetry. Your goal will be to provide students with enriching opportunities to appreciate how literature reflects and critiques a variety of experiences, institutions, and social structures. Students will examine the choices made by literary authors and the techniques used to convey their messages and meanings.
- Supporting students: You will help students in crafting and presenting their historical research in various formats, such as papers, podcasts, videos, and presentations. They should be able to identify and choose significant and credible primary and secondary sources, synthesize information from diverse resources to build evidence-based arguments, and understand the importance of source citation.
- Contributing to the creation of specialized English classes: This entails designing university-level courses that foster a deeper appreciation and passion for reading, writing, and storytelling, or developing introductory courses that enhance students' English skills through thoughtfully planned activities and projects.
- Assisting in interdisciplinary project development: You will help students draw connections across different subjects.
A minimum of two years of experience teaching AP courses is required.
A strong understanding of the AP curriculum standards, exam format, and College Board requirements is crucial for developing a Scheme of Work (SOW) for the subject.
Candidates should demonstrate robust skills in curriculum development and instructional design. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, as is the ability to motivate students and support them in attaining academic success.
Preference will be given to those with additional experience in designing and facilitating interdisciplinary, standards-aligned projects, as well as those who have worked with fellow educators to create interdisciplinary lessons.
