About This Role
GEMS FirstPoint School (FPS) is excited to invite applications for the position of Secondary Teacher of EAL, starting in August 2026.
Established in 2014, FPS is a prestigious British curriculum school situated in the vibrant Villa community of Dubai. Currently, we cater to approximately 2000 students from Nursery through Year 13, with plans for further expansion of our facilities. Our diverse student body comprises over 90 nationalities, fostering a rich and inclusive educational atmosphere.
Our campus boasts cutting-edge facilities, including a dedicated sports and performing arts center, swimming pools, a theater, a sports hall, and specialized rooms for dance, drama, and music. The role
The successful applicant will be tasked with delivering exceptional EAL support throughout the secondary phase, assisting students with English as an additional language in accessing the curriculum and maximizing their potential.
Key responsibilities include:
• Preparing students for external language assessments such as IELTS Academic, ESL, and EAL IGCSE
• Developing and implementing Individual Language Plans tailored to individual student needs
• Monitoring student progress and holding regular review meetings with parents
• Planning and delivering stimulating, differentiated lessons that cater to various language abilities
• Assessing, recording, and reporting on student progress to ensure favorable outcomes
• Supporting students across the curriculum, including late entrants and those with varying levels of English proficiency
• Contributing to a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere that fosters wellbeing and achievement
The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in the broader school community, including participation in co-curricular activities, school events, and ongoing professional development.
Skills and experience
• A Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field
• A recognized teaching qualification, such as a PGCE (EAL specialization is desirable)
• A Master’s degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics is an advantage
• At least two years of experience teaching EAL learners in an academic context
• Demonstrated experience in preparing students for IELTS Academic and EAL/ESL examinations
• Preferred experience in a British curriculum school
• Strong knowledge of inclusive teaching practices and differentiation
