Responsibilities of a CHS Department Head:
● Cultivate a collegial teaching and learning environment within and beyond the department.
● Collaborate with all Senior School Department Heads, Program Coordinators, and the Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning to develop a unified vision for teaching and learning aligned with the school’s strategic goals.
● Partner with department/program teachers and Junior School subject-specific educators to create a comprehensive curricular scope and sequence from Grade 1 to Grade 12.
● Manage a department/program budget, from initial requests to year-end reconciliation.
● As the instructional leader for the department/program, engage in the ‘Teacher Professional Growth Plan’ for all department/program members through observation and documented discussions.
● Support curricular events such as Curriculum Night and Course Planning and Selection Evening.
● Promote positive parental engagement in the curricular program.
Responsibilities of a CHS Teacher:
● Deliver a student-centered, inquiry-based, and collaborative approach in the B.C. Science curriculum for Grades 8 - 12, including Chemistry, Biology, and/or Physics.
● Facilitate the development of individual learners through the Crofton House School Ivy Compass and Advisory program.
● Collaborate with Senior School teachers to design, develop, and implement outstanding learning experiences tailored to each student.
● Build relationships with teachers and staff throughout the school community.
● Actively participate in the co-curricular program.
● Fully engage in the CHS Teacher Professional Growth Plan.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
● Required: B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or qualification criteria for Independent School Certification.
● Relevant university credentials (e.g., Bachelor of Education with a Bachelor of Science, or equivalent).
● A graduate degree is preferred.
● Comprehensive understanding of contemporary educational practices as outlined by the BC Ministry of Education.
● Familiarity with the Harkness method.
● Knowledge of 'Standards-Based Learning/Assessment.'
● Experience in an independent school is advantageous.
● Understanding of the learning preferences of girls and young women.
● Collaborative and enthusiastic with a passion for teaching.
