We are seeking a Throws Coach to become part of our Senior School Athletics team. In this position, you will work closely with the Program Coordinator, Athletics, Senior School, to prioritize the safety and well-being of the students under your guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead weekly training sessions for students in grades 8 to 12 (five Friday practices from 7 am to 8 am)
- Attend track and field competitions when throwing events are scheduled
- Act as the primary supervisor for students during both weekly practices and competitions
- Provide mentorship, training, and support to the athletes
- Encourage and develop student leadership skills
- Familiarize yourself with and follow all procedures outlined in the Crofton House School Athletic Coaches Handbook
- Confirm the practice, league, and tournament schedule for the season
- Collaborate with the teacher sponsor, if applicable, regarding athlete selection for the final team roster and competition lineup
- Register for competitions and finalize the team roster with BC School Sports two weeks prior to the deadline
- Submit an early dismissal list for the season (league, tournaments) to the Program Coordinator, Athletics before the first league game
- Complete the ‘Coach Postseason Wrap-Up’ document and ‘Athlete Survey’ for the Program Coordinator, Athletics at season’s end
- Maintain open communication with school administration and the parents of Track and Field participants
- Keep accurate records of student attendance at meetings
- Be available to meet with the Athletic Coordinator to discuss progress and future plans
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times
- Participate in school-initiated training as required
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:
- 1 to 3 years of coaching experience in track and field
- Proficient in the technical, tactical, and physical elements of throwing
- Strong understanding of the learning styles of girls and young women
- Committed to upholding high standards of professional practice
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
