About This Role

Location: Hong Kong

Major Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge and Understanding:
• Possess an in-depth knowledge of the Art subject as outlined in the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IBDP.
• Have a solid grasp of the progression within the Art discipline.
• Confidently address subject-related inquiries from students and be aware of common misconceptions and errors in their specialist subject(s).
• Familiarity with all secondary school curriculum and assessment standards.

2. Planning and Setting Expectations:
• Establish clear teaching objectives, content, and lesson structures tailored to the subject matter and the needs of the students.
• Set challenging expectations to motivate student learning and create clear targets based on prior achievements and experiences.
• Recognize students with special educational needs as well as those who are gifted and talented, and seek assistance to provide targeted support. If relevant, implement and maintain records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

3. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:
• Deliver effective instruction to whole classes, groups, and individuals to meet teaching objectives, maintain momentum and challenge, and utilize teaching time efficiently.
• Employ engaging teaching strategies that spark students’ intellectual curiosity, utilize effective questioning and responses, ensure clear presentations, and make good use of resources.
• Maintain high standards for student behavior by establishing discipline through focused teaching and fostering positive relationships.

4. Assessment and Evaluation:
• Evaluate the extent to which learning objectives have been accomplished and use this assessment to inform future teaching.
• Provide constructive oral and written feedback on students’ classwork and homework, setting targets for their progress.
• When applicable, be familiar with the expectations placed on students regarding the National Curriculum, KS3, and KS4.

5. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:
• Know how to compile and present informative reports for parents.
• Acknowledge that learning occurs beyond the school environment and provide opportunities for students to connect their learning with real-world applications.
• Recognize the importance of collaborating with external agencies.

6. Managing Own Performance and Development:
• Acknowledge the responsibility for personal professional development and stay informed about research and advancements in pedagogy and the subjects taught.
• Understand professional responsibilities related to school policies, guidelines, and practices.
• Serve as a role model for students in both presentation and personal conduct.
• Critically assess one’s own teaching and utilize this reflection to enhance effectiveness.

7. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:
• Foster effective working relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.

8. Managing Resources:
• Select and effectively use books, equipment, ICT, and other learning materials that support the achievement of teaching objectives.

Qualification & Requirements:
• B.Ed. or a bachelor’s degree in a related field along with a teaching certificate (such as PGCE, QTS, or country/state teaching licensure).
• Proficiency in English, as instruction will be conducted in English.
• A minimum of 2 years of full-time relevant teaching experience as a qualified educator.
• Experience with A level, IBDP, or IGCSE is highly preferred.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
*Estimated range based on regional data averages.
