About This Role

Purpose of Role:

International Schools Partnership (iSP) is a vibrant, global network of international schools dedicated to prioritizing learners and their educational journeys. This commitment is encapsulated in our unique Learning First methodology.

Our primary goal is to create exceptional learning experiences. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that our multilingual students receive systematic and consistent opportunities to develop proficiency in English, alongside any other educational languages, while also nurturing their native and additional languages. This approach aims to enhance their well-being, identity, academic success, and future opportunities.

The Head of Multilingualism at our school plays a crucial role in establishing high-quality provisions and driving improvements through our Multilingualism Roadmap and ongoing participation in the Learning Improvement Process.

iSP School Head of Multilingualism: Key Responsibilities

You will lead the implementation of iSP’s Multilingualism strategy throughout the school by:

- Collaborating with stakeholders to create, refine, agree upon, and execute the school’s multilingualism vision and language policy.

- Enhancing admission processes to develop comprehensive individual language profiles, assess initial language proficiency, identify potential future pathways, and set students and their families on a successful language learning journey.

- Working with the MLT and SLT to ensure a linguistically inclusive and supportive induction process that effectively welcomes learners and their families, facilitating their smooth integration into the school community.

- Identifying and eliminating obstacles to language learning across the school, while establishing high standards for intensive, targeted, and universal language support.

- Determining suitable professional learning opportunities related to multilingualism by assessing educators’ knowledge, skills, and understanding, and directing them to both asynchronous and synchronous programs available on iSP’s Learning Hub.

- Collaborating closely with Key Stage leaders, heads of department, and other MLT and SLT members to assist in designing learning experiences for multilingual learners as they create their units of work.

- Establishing and implementing a robust language learning framework to monitor and track student progress across the school, overseeing the collection and management of essential data concerning student development.

- Collecting real-time evidence of learning through regular Learning Visits to ensure that all multilingual learners are either engaged in beneficial challenges or consolidating their learning through effective pedagogical practices that align with iSP’s Learning First methodology.

You will partner with key school stakeholders to advance, integrate, and enhance iSP’s Multilingualism strategy, including:

- Collaborating with the Regional Head of Multilingualism/Group Head of Multilingualism to report on school-specific initiatives, identify areas needing additional support, explore professional learning opportunities, and ensure alignment with the Multilingualism Roadmap (our quality assurance framework).

- Working alongside the School Principal and SLT members to craft language policy and action plans using ISP’s Learning First approach and the 9 Criteria of the Learning Improvement Process.

- Assisting the school’s Admissions Team with the initial enrolment, language profiling, baseline assessment, and induction of multilingual learners.

- Joining forces with other multilingualism heads and specialists within the region to develop and implement best practices, coordinate regional learning events, and support the review and enhancement of language provisions.

- Collaborating with teachers across the school to ensure that Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding (KSU) related to multilingualism are incorporated into all planning and learning designs.

- Where applicable, mentoring Learning or Language Assistants within the school, identifying opportunities and activities to aid in their professional development.

- Engaging with parents and caregivers to ensure the school’s multilingualism approach is widely understood and integrated, while also clearly communicating detailed information about individual students’ needs, profiles, progress, and next steps.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

- A bachelor’s degree in education or a recognized, language-related postgraduate teaching qualification, or an equivalent credential.

- Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate within a team, fostering a positive and proactive school environment.

- Proficiency in differentiating and adapting effectively for students with diverse linguistic backgrounds, abilities, and developmental stages.

- Capability to utilize data points across the school to monitor progress and tailor programs to create highly personalized language learning pathways, along with the skills to visualize and communicate this data to various stakeholders to drive improvements.
