ROLE SUMMARY:

Vilamoura International School (CIV), a premier educational institution located in southern Portugal, provides Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary Education through a blend of national and international curricula, including Cambridge programs.

Nestled in a distinctive natural setting and boasting an expansive 18,500 m² outdoor play area, CIV has spent over 40 years cultivating an educational framework that champions early learning, inquiry-driven education, and a values-based approach rooted in democratic and humanistic ideals.

CIV is committed to academic distinction and is in search of a Biology Teacher (IB background preferred) for a position commencing in August 2026. The ideal candidate will motivate students through dynamic and rigorous instruction, develop crucial scientific skills and competencies, foster curiosity and critical thinking, and support the holistic academic, social, and emotional development of every student.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Create and deliver Biology lessons that adhere to the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP) frameworks and relevant curriculum standards.


Enhance students’ scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, research capabilities, and practical laboratory skills using an inquiry-based learning approach.


Develop and execute units of inquiry that reflect the IB philosophy, incorporating key concepts, global contexts, and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.


Evaluate, track, and record student progress in line with IB assessment practices, providing clear, constructive, and continuous feedback.


Encourage scientific literacy, environmental consciousness, and ethical understanding through the exploration of biological systems, processes, and real-world applications.


Tailor teaching methodologies to accommodate diverse learning needs, paces, and styles of students.


Foster a positive, inclusive, and intellectually engaging learning space, ensuring safe and effective laboratory practices.


Work collaboratively with colleagues, the IB coordination team, and parents, actively engaging in pedagogical meetings and ongoing professional development.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


A degree in Biology, Science, Education, or a related discipline.


Experience teaching Biology, ideally within an IB (MYP/DP) or international school environment.


Thorough subject knowledge and a robust understanding of IB teaching methodologies, emphasizing inquiry-based and hands-on learning.


Capability to cultivate a positive, safe, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating educational atmosphere.


Exceptional communication, collaboration, and teamwork abilities.


A dedicated commitment to the academic, social, and emotional growth of students, in alignment with IB principles and the IB Learner Profile.

Compensation
