About This Role

Job Title: Secondary Drama Teacher

Reports to: Secondary Principal

Job Overview

The Canadian International School of Guangzhou is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and innovative Drama Teacher to deliver dynamic drama education for students in Grades 6-12. The ideal candidate will provide drama instruction aligned with the Alberta Education curriculum, nurturing students' artistic abilities and fostering their creative expression. In addition, the Drama Teacher will be dedicated to producing one school theatre production annually, enhancing the cultural environment of the school.

Key Responsibilities

• Classroom Instruction

• Instruct drama classes for Grades 6-12 in accordance with the Alberta (Canada) Education curriculum.

• Design and execute engaging lesson plans that encompass various facets of drama, such as acting techniques, script analysis, improvisation, and stagecraft.

• Curriculum Development

• Create and implement drama programs tailored to a diverse student body, ensuring alignment with inquiry-based learning principles.

• Work collaboratively with fellow educators to develop interdisciplinary projects that enrich students' overall educational experience.

• Assessment and Evaluation

• Evaluate student performance in drama, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records to effectively communicate progress with students and parents.

• Classroom Environment

• Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom setting that encourages creativity, experimentation, and self-expression.

• Professional Development and Collaboration

• Engage in continuous professional development to remain updated on trends in drama education and work with colleagues to refine teaching practices.

• Duties and Community Engagement

• School Events and Productions: Create and execute drama initiatives that contribute to school events and oversee the annual school theatre production, involving students in all facets of production from acting to stage management.

• Community Engagement: Build connections between students and the broader community through performances, workshops, and events.

• Showcases and Festivals: Organize and take part in drama showcases, providing students with opportunities to present their work in a supportive and engaging environment.

• Extra-Curricular Activities: Lead drama clubs and promote student participation in external drama competitions and festivals, showcasing their talents beyond the classroom.

• Social Media and Online Platforms: Use social media to highlight student performances and arrange virtual showcases, encouraging community engagement and appreciation for the arts.

• Service Learning Projects: Create projects that allow students to engage in community service through drama, fostering a positive impact and social awareness.

Education and Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education with a major in Drama, Theatre Arts, or a relevant field.

• Certification: Teaching certification that fulfills the criteria for certification with Alberta Education.

• Experience: Previous experience teaching the Alberta curriculum is highly preferred. A minimum of two years of teaching experience in drama or a related area is desirable.

Compensation
