OBJECTIVES
The Deputy Head of the College will be an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), collaborating closely with the Master, the Bursar, and fellow SLT members. Reporting directly to the Master, this role holds the responsibility for overseeing the pastoral welfare of students, staff professional development, school events, and trips, along with other duties assigned by the Master.

This position will involve engaging in the strategic planning of the school, maintaining a high-profile presence within the Wellington community, and nurturing essential strategies and relationships that promote educational excellence. The Deputy Head will also be instrumental in advocating for the school and its events through effective communication, collaboration, and innovation. A commitment to autonomous, determined, and professional conduct that aligns with the Wellington Identity and Values will be crucial. The Deputy Head must communicate effectively with the Wellington community, including academic and non-academic team members, Governors, parents, extended families, and external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPPORT THE MASTER WITH STRATEGIC AND OPERATIONAL MATTERS

• Assist the Master in shaping the strategic direction of the school and provide professional leadership in managing the priorities outlined in the School Development Plan.

• Help the Master ensure that the school’s vision is clearly articulated, shared, understood, and effectively enacted by everyone. Embody the school's vision and values in everyday tasks, inspiring others to foster a shared culture and positive environment.

• Collaborate with the Master to establish, assess, and refine the school’s aims and objectives and policies.

• Work alongside the SLT to create positive solutions that promote diversity, dignity, and equality within all community engagements.

• Support the Master in adhering to legislation relevant to the school’s operations, particularly concerning health and safety and employment rights.

• Implement the school’s behavior, reward, and disciplinary policies; provide guidance to the pastoral leader for daily management of behavior among staff and students; advise the Master on disciplinary matters and offer informal support to staff when necessary.

• Organize agendas and reports for Academic Sub-committee meetings.

• Carry out any additional professional responsibilities of the Deputy Head of the College as reasonably assigned by the Master.

LEADERSHIP

• Act as an instructional leader, ensuring the continuous enhancement of pastoral care, safeguarding, and enrichment throughout the community.

• Oversee various departments across the College, including, but not limited to, the Safeguarding and Pupil Support Lead, CPD Coordinator, Director of Ed-tech, Head of Music department, and Head of PE department.

• Guide the CPD coordinator in providing strategic leadership for CPD throughout the school, enhancing offerings and building capacity through effective training, mentoring, and coaching aligned with the school’s strategic goals.

• Create the school calendar, term diary, and academic induction program in collaboration with Heads of School, including planning term dates and communicating information to parents. Take overall responsibility for school events, educational trips, extracurricular activities, and special occasions like the Summer Fair, EdFest, School Musical, and Graduation.

• Collaborate with the Master, Bursar, and Safeguarding and Pupil Support Lead to develop risk awareness and ensure implementation of effective health and safety policies and procedures across the college, meeting all WCC safeguarding standards.

• Partner closely with the Admissions and Marketing department to devise effective and innovative strategies for pupil recruitment and retention.

PARTNERSHIP

• Guide the cultivation of the Alumni community.

• Collaborate with local public and voluntary sector agencies, clubs, and societies to extend services that allow the broader community (including family members) to access knowledge, skills, and learning opportunities.

• Support and enhance public service, internationalism, and social enterprise initiatives.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATION:

BASIC QUALIFICATION
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher
Major: Education
Language: Fluent in English
Working Experience: At least 10 years in education
Management Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within education

EXPERTISE

• Comprehensive understanding of the K12 educational system, particularly in monitoring pastoral care and staff development.

• Familiarity with international educational models and a desire to deepen appreciation and expertise in this area.
