The Qikiqtani School Operations within the Nunavut Department of Education is seeking enthusiastic and community-focused leaders to take on the role of Vice Principal at Attagoyuk Ilisavik. This position calls for a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment for students throughout Nunavut. In collaboration with the Principal, you will enhance instructional leadership and promote a positive and inclusive school culture. Your primary focus will be on student success, nurturing culturally responsive learning environments based on Inuit Societal Values, and advancing essential school goals such as literacy, inclusion, and student well-being. Attagoyuk Ilisavik, situated in the picturesque community of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, serves around 250 students in grades 6 through 12 with a committed staff of 30. The school has a profound connection to Inuit culture and history, enriching the educational experience for its students.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification
• Bachelor of Education degree
• A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways to Teach Canada)

Experience
• Minimum of 2 years in a formal or informal school leadership capacity (e.g., Vice-Principal, department head, instructional coach, or teacher-leader)
• A minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience

Core Leadership Competencies
• A demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive school atmosphere that supports the well-being of both students and staff.
• Proven ability to assist in instructional leadership alongside the principal, with an emphasis on literacy development and inclusive teaching practices.
• Experience in facilitating instructional improvement through coaching, professional learning communities (PLCs), and using student achievement data to enhance student success.
• Skills in building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, families, and community members, particularly in northern and cross-cultural contexts.

Assets and Preferred Experience

Language and Cultural Assets
• Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written).
• Experience in promoting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
• Familiarity with supporting bilingual and ESL programs.

Instructional Leadership
• Advanced education training at the graduate level.
• A proven record of creating positive school-wide behavior and learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

School Operations & Systems
• Experience in executing operational directives and departmental requirements, including collaboration with the District Education Authority (DEA) and Regional School Operations (RSO).
• Background in supporting specific school operations, such as scheduling, supervision, student support processes, or contributing to school improvement planning.
• Exposure to school-based budgeting or resource management, assisting in financially responsible decision-making under the Principal's direction.

Compensation and Benefits
• Salary Range (Certified Vice-Principal): from $108,201 prorated/annum to $157,970 prorated/annum.
• Nunavut Northern Allowance for Pangnirtung, Nunavut: $19,077 prorated/annum.
• Subsidized Housing: Available, though sharing may be required.

Conditions of Employment
• Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
• Candidates from outside Nunavut must provide a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications missing this documentation will not be considered.
• Principals and Vice Principals must secure a Certificate of Eligibility as a Nunavut Principal within three years of employment.
