Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by Nunavut, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers who do not possess a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates need not meet every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written).
  • Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
  • Background in bilingual or ESL teaching environments.
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings.

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching methods.
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development.
  • Familiarity with contemporary assessment strategies to guide student learning.
  • Proven ability to foster a positive classroom environment using various management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
  • Proven ability to support student wellbeing and engagement.
  • Experience in engaging with students outside the classroom in suitable contexts.

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and supporting students.
