Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates are not expected to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly regarded.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience in education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in teaching within a bilingual or ESL environment
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Familiarity with modern assessment techniques to inform learning
  • Experience in creating a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Proven ability to establish respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Experience in enhancing student well-being and engagement
  • Involvement with students outside of the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
  • Ability to work effectively within a school team
