Required Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience in educational practices informed by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Experience teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canada teaching contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching methodologies
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy instruction
- Training or experience using contemporary assessment methods to inform learning
- Experience creating a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Experience promoting student well-being and engagement
- Experience interacting with students outside the classroom as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience planning instruction and support collaboratively
- Experience working as part of a school team
- Experience learning and contributing in a community-centered environment

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Sanikiluaq, Nunavut: $20,293
- Subsidized Housing: Available, though sharing may be required

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications that do not include this documentation will not be considered.
