Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Teachers trained internationally without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)
Desired Qualifications
While it is not necessary for candidates to meet all qualifications, relevant experience and a commitment to community-oriented education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Experience with education informed by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational contexts
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development techniques
- Familiarity with current assessment methodologies to enhance learning
- Demonstrated ability to create a positive learning environment using effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Background in promoting student well-being and engagement
- Experience interacting with students outside of the classroom when appropriate
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaborative instructional planning and student support
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively
