Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Teachers trained internationally without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience with education informed by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development techniques
  • Familiarity with current assessment methodologies to enhance learning
  • Demonstrated ability to create a positive learning environment using effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Background in promoting student well-being and engagement
  • Experience interacting with students outside of the classroom when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaborative instructional planning and student support
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively
