About This Role

ROLE SUMMARY:

King’s College, The British School of Madrid (Soto de Viñuelas) is seeking an experienced and responsible Head of Boarding (Residential Director) to lead all aspects of the Summer Camp program from June 18 to July 25, 2026. This senior leadership role involves full accountability for student wellbeing, safeguarding, staff management, and the smooth operation of daily residential activities.

The Residential Director will oversee academic, activities, and residential teams, coordinate complex logistics such as accommodations, transportation, medication, and dietary needs, and act as the primary contact for parents throughout the program. This position requires excellent leadership abilities, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to remain composed and make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Direct the residential camp, ensuring outstanding pastoral care for all participants.


Manage academic, activities, and residential teams by providing clear direction and support.


Develop and oversee staff schedules, timetables, and daily operational strategies.


Supervise accommodations, dorm assignments, transportation, medication, allergies, and dietary requirements.


Coordinate arrivals, departures, and airport transfers.


Lead and manage excursions and off-site activities, ensuring compliance with safety and safeguarding standards.


Maintain communication with parents, addressing concerns, incidents, and emergency notifications.


Ensure adherence to safeguarding, health and safety protocols, and emergency procedures.


Conduct staff training days and facilitate daily staff meetings.


Assist in responding to incidents and medical situations alongside camp medical personnel.


Manage petty cash and camp resources with care.


Ensure staff compliance with school procedures, safeguarding protocols, and professional behavior.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


C2 level proficiency in English and C1 level in Spanish.


At least 3 years of experience in residential life within similar programs.


A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in recreation, camps, outdoor education, youth programming, or related areas.


Experience working with high school students as a camp counselor, tutor, or in a comparable role.


Proven experience in supervising staff and providing effective leadership to teams.


Strong organizational, administrative, and team management skills.


Experience managing schedules, staff responsibilities, and daily operations.


Experience in parent communication and incident response.


Experience coordinating large groups of children in residential settings.


Proficiency in managing logistics such as transportation, dorm assignments, medication, allergies, and special needs.


Experience leading training sessions and daily staff meetings.


A strong dedication to safeguarding and student welfare.


Ability to maintain effective leadership during crisis situations.


Experience managing petty cash and camp resources.


Capacity to lead and supervise excursions, ensuring the safety of students and staff.


A proven background in pastoral care and student support.


A degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field (preferred).
