About This Role

St John Bosco Arts College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Student and Family Engagement Officer to join our Attendance and Pastoral team.

This is a key role supporting students and their families to improve attendance, punctuality and engagement with school. Working closely with the Pastoral Lead, Attendance Manager, pastoral colleagues and external agencies, you will identify barriers to attendance and provide practical, timely support to help students attend regularly and succeed at school.

Key duties will include:

  • Monitoring attendance and identifying patterns of absence and lateness.
  • Making early contact with students and families where attendance is a concern.
  • Undertaking home visits and meeting with parents/carers to provide practical support.
  • Developing strategies and action plans to improve attendance.
  • Supporting students returning to school following periods of absence.
  • Working collaboratively with pastoral, safeguarding and external agencies to support vulnerable students and their families.
  • Supporting punctuality and, where necessary, collecting students to enable them to attend school.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organisation and ICT skills, and the ability to build positive and professional relationships with young people, families and other professionals. Experience of working with children, young people, families and external services, together with an understanding of school attendance, would be particularly valuable. A UK driving licence is desirable.

Above all, you will be approachable, resilient and solution-focused, with a genuine commitment to removing barriers and helping our students thrive.

St John Bosco Arts College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
