About This Role
- Uphold and promote the principles and standards of excellence outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the designated curriculum while demonstrating thorough and current knowledge of both the curriculum and subject matter.
- Design and implement engaging lessons that inspire students, utilizing suitable materials and optimizing the classroom environment to accommodate various learning styles.
- Provide written documentation of lesson planning and preparation upon request. Maintain organized records of curriculum outlines, yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment strategies.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
- Instruct students according to their specific needs by employing suitable teaching strategies that address their diverse abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, those with lower academic proficiency, and gifted students.
- Assign and evaluate student work. Assess, document, and report on each student’s academic progress and achievements, using this data to tailor the curriculum to individual requirements.
- Exhibit proficiency in utilizing media and technology within the classroom setting.
- Foster the overall progress and well-being of students, providing them with guidance on educational issues.
- Engage with external parties, such as Ministry of Education officials, when necessary.
- Take part in performance evaluations, appraisals, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the development and preparation of teaching materials, educational resources, course content, and pastoral care arrangements.
- Actively participate in and, when appropriate, lead co-curricular and extracurricular programs, fostering positive working relationships through shared leadership and exchange of ideas, materials, and experiences.
- Supervise and monitor student behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness. Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and address disruptive conduct.
- Exemplify and promote cultural awareness and understanding, instilling a passion for learning in students.
- Assist in the organization and planning of school events and activities, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and award ceremonies.
- Maintain regular communication with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values, while keeping them informed about their children’s progress, respecting the confidentiality of student information.
- Demonstrate initiative and commitment beyond standard working hours when tasks demand additional effort.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as needed.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as directed by immediate and indirect reporting line managers or supervisors.
