About This Role

GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to become a member of our High School team. The start date for this position is 01 August 2026.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
  • Deliver the designated curriculum with a thorough and current understanding of the subject matter.
  • Plan and execute engaging lessons that inspire students, utilizing appropriate materials and creating a classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning styles.
  • Provide written evidence of planning and preparation when requested, and maintain records related to curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment strategies, and more.
  • Ensure adherence to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
  • Tailor instruction for assigned students based on their individual needs, employing suitable teaching methods for various learning profiles, including late entrants, ESL learners, and those with differing academic abilities.
  • Assign and evaluate work, while assessing, recording, and reporting on students’ academic growth and accomplishments. Utilize assessment data to adapt the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of media and technology within the classroom.
  • Foster the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational matters.
  • Engage with external parties when necessary (e.g., Ministry of Education officials).
  • Participate in appraisal, Performance Management procedures, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Collaborate with colleagues in developing teaching materials, resources, study courses, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Engage in and, when appropriate, lead co-curricular and extra-curricular activities within the school. Promote positive working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
  • Oversee and promote safe and appropriate student behavior, implementing strategies that encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive actions.
  • Model and advocate for cultural awareness and understanding while instilling a passion for learning.
  • Assist in planning and organizing school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days.
  • Regularly communicate with parents, advocating for the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents informed about their children's progress while maintaining the confidentiality of student information.
  • Demonstrate initiative and dedication beyond standard work hours when additional commitment is required.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as needed.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by direct and indirect reporting line managers/supervisors.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
