About This Role

Role Description:

The SEN Coordinator role is established as a 0.5 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) position. The remaining 0.5 FTE will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and the strategic priorities of the school.

Preference may be given to candidates who can integrate the responsibilities of the SEN Coordinator with additional roles in College and University Counselling, aiding students and families in navigating post-secondary options and applications.

When applicable, the extra allocation may involve teaching or another specialized role that fits the candidate’s expertise and the school’s program needs. This may encompass areas such as English language instruction, learning support, or other academic subjects. This setup ensures that the school maintains strong support for students with additional learning needs while optimizing staff expertise within the broader educational framework.

This demanding role requires an individual with the relevant qualifications and proven experience as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator or Learning Support Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be resourceful, empathetic, proactive, and exude a friendly and positive attitude. The successful individual will collaborate with special education colleagues across regional ISP schools, demonstrate extensive knowledge of various disabilities and disorders, and be capable of delivering or facilitating appropriate interventions and support within an educational setting. Experience working with students for whom English is a second language is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill all duties associated with the SENCO role, including conducting assessments, developing IEPs, IBPs, and ALPs, collaborating with staff and parents to ensure effective provision and support, as well as monitoring and reporting on student progress.
  • Maintain the Inclusion Register and provision map of interventions throughout the school for SEN, G+T, EAL, and students facing learning or behavioral challenges.
  • Lead the Inclusion team within the school and ensure the effective use of learning support resources.
  • Identify the training and development needs of the entire staff based on student data and/or current curriculum changes, and facilitate in-house CPD learning support sessions.
  • Provide reports on the attainment and progress of students on the SEN register and analyze overall school assessment data to identify priority areas and/or students for targeted intervention.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborate with external specialists and Inclusion colleagues to improve outcomes for students.

Teacher Skills:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creativity and adaptability.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Patience and empathy.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education/PGCE with additional postgraduate qualifications in Special Education—such as accredited SENCO training or a Master’s in Special Education.
  • Experience in the role of SENCO or Learning Support Coordinator, overseeing a team of educational professionals.
  • Advocate for inclusion and provide support to all staff, families, and students concerning SEN and inclusion issues throughout the school.
  • Formulate policies and practices that promote high-quality outcomes for all students, especially those identified with SEN.
  • Background in child development or related fields, ideally with experience in counselling.
  • Understanding of international early childhood education standards.
  • Strong proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal.
