Situated in the Al Hamra community in southern Ras Al Khaimah, RAK Academy – Al Hamra is an expanding primary and lower secondary institution that offers an adapted UK National Curriculum from Pre-K to Grade 8, in addition to the UAE MOE subjects. Our new secondary school for Grades 6 to 8 will welcome its first students in August 2026. The Role (Founding Position):

RAK Academy – Al Hamra is on the lookout for an enthusiastic, motivated, and inspirational Secondary Head of Science to spearhead the creation of our new secondary Science department. This founding position presents a unique chance to influence curriculum development, departmental culture, STEM pathways, and teaching standards at a school that will open for the first time in August 2026.

As a founding middle leader, the Secondary Head of Science will:

  • Oversee the creation and execution of the Science curriculum for Grades 6–8
  • Establish assessment frameworks, departmental guidelines, and expectations for high-quality teaching
  • Foster a robust culture of scientific inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking throughout the school
  • Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and professional growth of Science teachers
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Deputy Head, and primary science leads to ensure a smooth transition and continuity
  • Manage curriculum planning, laboratory safety, resource allocation, and professional development requirements
  • Teach across various key stages as the school evolves

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or a related field
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (or equivalent)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • A strong understanding of teaching and learning principles
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology to enhance teaching and learning
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and support students
  • A reflective practitioner with a creative and innovative mindset
  • A positive, enthusiastic team player with a growth mindset
  • Willingness to actively participate in extracurricular activities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience teaching GCSE/IGCSE/A-Level courses (Early Career Teachers are encouraged to apply)

Desirable:

  • National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML)
  • National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching (NPQLT)
  • Proven track record of improving student outcomes
  • Experience in contributing to or leading curriculum development
