Job Purpose

  • Promote multilingualism as a cognitive, linguistic, and cultural asset, ensuring the successful implementation of the whole-school MLL policy while enhancing cultural inclusivity and supporting English language acquisition.
  • Champion an asset-based approach to multilingualism, playing a crucial role in ensuring that all multilingual learners can access, engage with, and excel across the curriculum.
  • Collaborate closely with the Multilingual Learning Leader to improve MLL services.
  • Maximize the academic growth of multilingual learners through high-quality teaching and learning in English support.
  • Work in partnership with classroom teachers, specialists, parents, external agencies, and other stakeholders to assist multilingual learners.
  • Provide tailored language interventions, share expert insights on language acquisition strategies, and contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Foster positive self-esteem and supportive relationships for all students, built on respect and mutual trust.
  • Cultivate a constructive, purposeful, and professional working atmosphere that encourages collaboration and challenge while valuing individual contributions to the school's success.
  • Advocate for equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of race, religion, or gender, and promote excellence, resourcefulness, and perseverance.
  • Exemplify and endorse best practices in the teaching and learning of MLL.

Duties and Responsibilities

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Actively support the vision, ethos, culture, and policies of the school.
  • Maintain high standards across all aspects of school life, particularly in student progress in English language.
  • Inspire and motivate students, teachers, and staff members.
  • Comply with the professional responsibilities outlined in the Alice Smith Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Contribute to a positive, purposeful, and professional school culture.
  • Serve as a point of contact for parents.
  • Commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Participate in the extracurricular life of the school.

Teaching and Learning

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching by planning, preparing, and delivering well-structured, clearly presented MLL lessons and/or targeted one-on-one and group interventions designed for multilingual learners to maximize their learning progress and English language development.
  • Ensure that the classroom environment is engaging and conducive to learning.
  • Inspire enthusiasm for the subject being taught and motivate all students to reach their potential.
  • Promote high standards of behavior by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to study and building strong relationships with students.

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
