Pre-Kindergarten (Full-Time Position)

The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is seeking a skilled, confident, and motivated individual to fill the position of Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Father Megret Elementary School located in Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan. This role requires strong interpersonal abilities, a commitment to innovative teaching strategies, and the capacity to cultivate a dynamic learning atmosphere for students.

As a First Nation Education Authority, ADEA supports three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan: Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation. The Authority serves around 1,400 students and is dedicated to improving educational outcomes through advanced technology, pioneering programs, and the integration of Denesuline culture into the educational experience.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Be attentive to any allergies present among children.
  • Offer clear instructional support to create a positive learning environment that respects Denesuline culture and language.
  • Facilitate opportunities for children to interact socially, develop skills, understand school routines, and establish a solid foundation for future academic achievement.
  • Prepare materials ahead of time to ensure that both the classroom and Educators are ready to welcome students.
  • Encourage family participation in learning and maintain a welcoming ambiance that invites parents into the classroom.
  • Regularly evaluate and document student progress.
  • Assist children with self-care activities, including dressing, diapering, and feeding.
  • Adhere to cleaning protocols to ensure that all reusable center and tabletop items are sanitized, and all dishes and utensils are cleaned before leaving school each day.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate patience, adaptability, attentiveness, and enthusiasm.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and non-verbal, active listening, and empathy, are essential.
  • A solid understanding of programs and assessments such as Play and Exploration: Early Learning Program Guide, Early Years Evaluation (EYE), Prekindergarten Essentials: Effective Practices, Policies and Guidelines, and the Saskatchewan Curriculum is required.
  • A commitment to provincial Ministry of Education curricula with an emphasis on holistic child development, including social-emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions.
  • Engage actively with families, children, and community members to value their backgrounds and experiences, promoting an equitable and inclusive school environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school-based staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding student and professional information.
