Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their qualifications evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada).

Desired Qualifications
Candidates do not need to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly regarded.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both oral and written).
- Experience in delivering education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
- Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL settings.
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational environments.

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development.
- Knowledge of current assessment strategies to guide learning.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive classroom environment using effective management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Skills in promoting student wellbeing and active participation.
- Engagement with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate.

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively designing instruction and supporting students.
- Proven ability to function as an integral part of a school team.
- Contribution to a collective, community-oriented learning atmosphere.

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Whale Cove, Nunavut: $21,564
- Subsidized Housing: Available, but sharing may be necessary.

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications without this documentation will not be considered.
