Duties and Responsibilities: As a Numeracy Catalyst, you will play a vital role in promoting numeracy initiatives and engaging diverse groups in numeracy-related activities. Your collaboration with educators, community organizations, and families will be essential in designing and executing programs that ignite a love for numeracy and improve numeracy skills across all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Learning Sessions: Plan and lead workshops, seminars, and training sessions aimed at enhancing numeracy skills for students and educators, ensuring the content is engaging and accessible.
- Create Educational Resources: Design and curate a variety of teaching materials, such as lesson plans, instructional guides, and assessment tools, to facilitate effective numeracy instruction.
- Evaluate Numeracy Proficiency: Perform diagnostic assessments to evaluate learners' numeracy skills, identifying strengths and areas for improvement to customize support effectively.
- Collaborate with Educators: Partner with teachers and school staff to weave numeracy strategies into the curriculum, providing ongoing support and feedback to enhance teaching methods.
- Foster a Positive Learning Environment: Promote a culture of mathematical thinking and problem-solving, creating a safe space for inquiry and exploration of numeracy concepts.
- Engage Parents and the Community: Organize events and initiatives that involve parents and community members in numeracy activities, fostering awareness and support for numeracy development beyond the classroom.
- Monitor Progress and Outcomes: Track and assess students' numeracy progress, utilizing data to guide instructional decisions and adjust strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Stay Updated on Best Practices: Continuously research and implement current trends and evidence-based practices in numeracy education, participating in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills.
- Advocate for Numeracy Education: Emphasize the significance of numeracy skills in everyday life and future opportunities, advocating for resources and policies that promote effective numeracy education.
- Encourage Peer Learning: Establish opportunities for educators to exchange knowledge and strategies related to numeracy instruction, fostering a collaborative community of practice among staff.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Professional "A" Teaching Certificate
- Strong understanding of Saulteaux Culture is preferred, or a willingness to learn
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Commitment to innovative and adaptive teaching methods that address the diverse needs of students
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and engage with the community
