This welcoming community lies near the Ontario border and educates students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 11, following the Ontario curriculum while incorporating daily Algonquin language and cultural activities. We are in search of a committed High School Math Teacher (Grades 9–11) who will assist students in mastering mathematical concepts, enhancing problem-solving abilities, and developing numeracy skills. Your role will be essential in guiding students toward graduation and readiness for post-secondary education, addressing learning gaps, building self-assurance, and engaging students in a nurturing, community-focused atmosphere. It is imperative to customize instruction and offer targeted support to students who may be facing challenges. Establishing trust and effectively handling challenging behaviors will be vital for your success.

Responsibilities:
- Deliver mathematics instruction to high school students, focusing on bridging learning gaps and fostering confidence in those who are hesitant.
- Utilize differentiated teaching methods to engage students with lower participation levels and those who are behind in their learning, adapting approaches as needed.
- Choose and develop relevant, culturally appropriate materials that resonate with students' backgrounds and experiences to sustain their interest.
- Maintain classroom behavior through clear expectations, positive reinforcement, and restorative practices to resolve conflicts and promote accountability.
- Employ trauma-informed strategies to create a supportive and safe learning environment for all students.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Specialized Services to design and manage Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Continuously assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to both students and their families.
- Keep accurate attendance records and ensure that assessments, report cards, and related student documentation are completed on time.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to enhance engagement and support learning.
- Work together with special education staff, counselors, and other professionals to foster students' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Integrate Algonquin cultural teachings and practices into the educational framework.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills in teaching, behavior management, trauma-informed education, and support for reluctant learners.
- Actively participate in school community activities, including meetings, events, and extracurricular programs.

Mandatory Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Education degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Valid teaching certification from a Canadian province or territory is required.
- Candidates lacking Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification must be willing to obtain it within a specified timeframe.
- A solid foundation in mathematics (degree or qualifications in mathematics or math education).
- Experience teaching high school mathematics with demonstrated classroom management skills in challenging environments.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience working with First Nations students and an understanding of their unique learning needs and cultural contexts.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to assist students dealing with learning challenges.
- Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Collaborative experience with special education staff and counselors to support the holistic development of students.
- Proficient in managing difficult classroom behaviors to ensure effective teaching.
- Willingness to adopt restorative practices to address conflicts and foster accountability.
- Commitment to learning and applying trauma-informed strategies to support student well-being.
