Position Overview: We are looking for a passionate and committed Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing and implementing educational programs that recognize diversity, promote equity, and honor the cultural heritage of our community. This position requires a strong commitment to indigenization, a focus on competency in the curriculum, and an innovative approach to land-based education.
Responsibilities:
Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community partners to develop and execute a competency-based curriculum rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.
Cultural Inclusion: Foster a learning environment that recognizes and integrates various Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture.
Equity and Inclusion: Create and implement initiatives that promote equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing disparities and cultivating a sense of belonging for every student.
Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and the community, actively seeking collaboration and feedback to continually enhance educational programs.
Land-Based Education: Incorporate land-based learning experiences into the curriculum, strengthening connections to the land and traditional practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education
Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate
The following criteria will be essential considerations in the selection process:
A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions.
Experience with inquiry-based instructional methods.
Experience in implementing curriculum with a focus on competency-based education.
Familiarity with competency-based assessment and evaluation.
A proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Knowledge of the Inclusive Schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.
Understanding of land-based education principles and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
