We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Head of Geography to join our faculty in the next academic year. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a growing department and shape the Geography curriculum across the Senior School. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience teaching Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) within the International Baccalaureate program. The Head of Geography will also oversee the engaging Global Perspectives course offered in Key Stage 3 along with Geography for selected students, following the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum.

In this position, you will deliver inspiring Geography lessons that promote analytical thinking, geographical literacy, and a genuine curiosity about the world. As the Head of Department, you will drive curriculum development, support your colleagues, and actively engage in the broader academic and pastoral aspects of school life. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver captivating and well-organized Geography lessons across Key Stage 3, iGCSE, and the IB Diploma Programme, ensuring compliance with curriculum guidelines and the school's academic standards.
  • Lead the Geography department, offering guidance to colleagues in areas of planning, teaching, and assessment.
  • Oversee the Global Perspectives course in Key Stage 3 in conjunction with Geography, when applicable.
  • Promote cross-curricular connections, enrichment opportunities, and co-curricular activities related to Geography.
  • Thoroughly prepare students for both internal and external assessments, including the requirements of iGCSE and IBDP.
  • Accurately evaluate, monitor, and report on student progress, upholding high academic standards.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the curriculum, resources, and schemes of work across all Key Stages.
  • Employ inclusive teaching strategies that accommodate students with diverse abilities, including those with varying learning needs.
  • Participate in the pastoral care of students, nurturing their wellbeing, resilience, and a lasting interest in the study of the world.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A recognized teaching qualification and a degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching Geography at Key Stage 3, iGCSE, and IBDP levels, with preference given to those who have instructed ESS within the IB framework.
  • Previous experience leading a department or curriculum area in an international school (highly desirable).
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for inspiring students to understand physical, human, and environmental geography.
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • A reflective and innovative mindset with a dedication to continuous professional development.
  • Experience in an international school environment or familiarity with international curricula (highly desirable).

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
