About This Role

Location: Chongqing

Overall Description:

This role necessitates the ability to instruct across the primary areas of Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and IB. Additional experience or training in related fields of visual and performing arts (music/drama) and IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) will be regarded as advantageous.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge and Understanding:

    • Possess an in-depth knowledge of the Art subject within the National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IBDP.
    • Maintain a solid understanding of the progression within the Art discipline.
    • Effectively address subject-related inquiries posed by students and be aware of common misconceptions and errors within the subject area.
    • Familiarize oneself with all secondary school curriculum and assessment guidelines.
  • Planning and Setting Expectations:

    • Define clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures, and sequences that are suitable for the subject and the students.
    • Establish high and challenging expectations for student learning and motivation, setting explicit targets based on prior achievements and experiences.
    • Recognize students with special educational needs as well as those who are gifted and talented, knowing where to seek assistance to provide focused support. Implement and document Individual Education Plans (IEPs) where necessary.
  • Teaching and Managing Student Learning:

    • Deliver effective instruction to whole classes, groups, and individuals, ensuring teaching objectives are achieved, maintaining momentum and challenge, and optimizing teaching time.
    • Employ teaching strategies that engage students, fostering intellectual curiosity through effective questioning, clear presentation, and appropriate use of resources.
    • Uphold high standards for student behavior, creating and sustaining a disciplined environment through focused teaching and fostering positive, productive relationships.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:

    • Evaluate the extent to which learning objectives have been met and utilize this assessment to inform future teaching.
    • Grade and monitor students’ classwork and homework, providing constructive oral and written feedback while setting targets for their progress.
    • Understand the expectations placed on students regarding the National Curriculum, KS3, and KS4 when applicable.
  • Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:

    • Know how to prepare and deliver informative reports to parents.
    • Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and create opportunities for students to relate their learning to real-world situations.
    • Acknowledge the importance of collaborating with external agencies.
  • Managing Own Performance and Development:

    • Take responsibility for personal professional development and remain informed about research and advancements in pedagogy and subject content.
    • Understand professional responsibilities in relation to school policies, guidelines, and practices.
    • Model exemplary presentation and conduct to the students they teach.
    • Critically evaluate their own teaching and utilize this feedback for improvement.
  • Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:

    • Build effective working relationships with professional colleagues, including co-teachers, specialists, and support staff.
  • Managing Resources:

    • Select and utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other learning resources effectively to achieve teaching objectives.

Qualification & Requirements:

  • A B.Ed. or a bachelor's degree in a related field, along with a teaching certificate (such as PGCE, QTS, or country/state teaching licensure).
  • Proficient in English, as instruction will be conducted in English.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant full-time teaching experience as a qualified educator.
  • Experience with A level or IBDP, IGCSE is highly preferred.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
